Nantucket Captain’s House
Nantucket, MA

Nestled in the heart of downtown Nantucket, a historic gem stands testament to the island’s enduring spirit. Formerly a captain’s house and later an inn, this stately residence has been meticulously refurbished, breathing new life into its classical details while honoring its rich heritage.

Preserving History, Embracing Modernity
Our mission was to create a welcoming New England ambiance within each room, respectfully preserving the home’s original architectural details.
The majestic windows, intricate crown moldings, and handcrafted fireplace mantels remain intact and fully functional, serving as a constant reminder of the craftsmanship of a bygone era.

The dining room features elegant Federal-style chairs, each a nod to classic American design.

In our pursuit of authenticity, we sourced turn-of-the-century antiques familiar to Nantucket’s unique history. Whale-themed accessories and distinctive eagle door hangings evoke the island’s maritime past, while a carefully selected George Washington bust and a Danish pedestal add layers of global sophistication.
The color palette for each room was meticulously chosen to cultivate a “Nantucket modern” vibe, reflecting the lively and intellectual spirit of the family who now calls this extraordinary house home.

Every room was thoughtfully designed to offer a respectful nod to the past, seamlessly integrating a curated mix of antique treasures and contemporary furnishings. This delicate balance ensures that the home feels both historically resonant and refreshingly modern.

It is one of the few captain’s homes that remarkably survived the devastating Great Nantucket Fire of 1846, a testament to its robust construction and perhaps a touch of good fortune.
